Winter Jazz

The sixth Jazz Festival «Globus-2009» will take place from November 25 through December 2 in Jerusalem.This has become a traditional jazz week in the national capital. More than 120 musicians and 22 ensembles will participate in festival's seven concerts.

 
When the summer heat is gone and winter is fast approaching, this is when season of jazz comes to Jerusalem. The sixth Jazz Festival «Globus» will take place from November 25 through December 2 in Jerusalem.This has become a traditional jazz week in the national capital. Concerts will take place at the Harmony Hall in the center of Jerusalem near the pedestrian area of Nahalat-Shiva Street. More than 120 musicians and 22 ensembles will participate in festival's seven concerts.
 
Not only the familiar favorites of Israeli jazz fans will perform here, but also quite a few new names will appear on the bill - legend of Russian jazz guitarist Alexei Kuznetsov; duet from Czech Republic "DoMa"; veteran of Russian jazz German trumpeter Igor Shirokov; renowned Russian jazz ensemble "Round Band" with it's leader, one of the best Moscow saxophonists, Alexei Kruglov. Celebrated Italian pianist Tony Pancello will take part in the "Globus-2009" festival for the first time as well, although he had played with great success in Israel before.
 
The majority of festival participants are Israeli musicians, such as renowned pianist and composer Slava Ganelin, veterans of home jazz - Ricky Manor, Nahum Pereferkovich, Boris Gammer, Mamelo Gaetanopulos, Arele Kaminsky, pioneers of Soviet jazz era Mikhail Kull and Shimon Lipkovich. Among the Israeli musicians participating in the festival are many well know performers, laureates of international festivals, frequent and welcome guests on the home jazz scene: singer Julia Feldman, guitarists Roman Alexeev, Steve Paskov and Yevgeny Pisak; saxophonist Dmitry Shurin; bassist Valery Lipetz; drummer Yevgeny Maistrovsky; multi-instrumentalists Bob Yurochkin, Gershon Weisserfierer and Moshe Yankovsky; trumpeter Gennady Litvak, who also will appear as a band leader with big band Bat-Yam. Some of the home musicians-participants were educated in the US and well established themselves on the New York jazz club scene - Michal Cohen, Robert Anchipolovsky, Yuval Tabachnik, Ivri Boruchov, Dmitry Grodsky.
«Globus-2009» will also showcase such talented Israeli musicians as singer Esti Kinan-Ofri, as well as Middle-Eastern instruments players - Peretz and Mark Eliahu and Gil Hameiri.
One of the festival themes will be the fiftieth anniversary of "Beatles" which has been celebrated all around the world during 2009.
Among participants are also young musicians-repatriates from many countries, students of Jerusalem Academy of Music and jazz school "Rimon", as well as youth jazz orchestra "Kleiman-Band".

Less than seven years as Slava Ganelin filed Jerusalem cultural center idea of the jazz festival and it was exactly 4 years since the festival first opened, or the "Jazz Globe - 2004". The name also came up with Ganelin, meaning not the geography of settlement participants (one did not suspect then that the festival will be international), but a variety of styles - the musical globe.
